For centuries, the establishment have lorded over the tenants in the UK, who have had little or no recourse. Today, with the launch of the Commercial Tenants Association (“the CTA”), the UK’s 900,000+ commercial tenants now have support to fight back and demand their rights and justice.
As Peter Bell, tenant champion and CTA Founder, explains: “It’s never ceased to amaze me how poorly tenants are treated by landlords, property managers and agents – it’s as if they’re worthless occupiers or unwelcome guests. Where else is a fare-paying passenger not treated like a valued customer – and which other market is geared so heavily towards the seller and not the buyer?”
Mr Bell adds, “The archaic and often punitive behaviour of far too many landlords and their representatives depict how the establishment and landed gentry have set the scene from centuries past. But now, with the launch of our Association, tenants have a champion in their corner who can help them fight for a fair and equitable market.”
The CTA’s recent survey of over 1,000 commercial tenants show that 73% are dissatisfied with their treatment as customers, while 88% lack the expertise to deal with general tenancy issues and struggle to find the independent support and advice they desperately need.
With tenants being treated poorly and left feeling helpless and without rights or recourse, the launch of the CTA addresses this problem by providing its members with access to all the advice and training they need, as well as a team of carefully-selected legal and industry experts who will assist members with their tenancy issues.
As Mr Bell sums it up: “With so many businesses struggling to survive the pandemic, it’s more vital than ever that the underdog in the adversarial landlord/tenant relationship has someone willing to fight their corner. Today, the CTA has been established to be that champion!
